Buckner Jr., who tragically fell during World War II at the Battle of Okinawa.
The museum also showcases items from the Crittenden Brothers, one fighting for the Union and the other for the Confederacy, highlighting Kentucky's complex Civil War loyalties. Notably, it features artifacts from the famed Confederate General John Hunt Morgan, often referred to as "The Thunderbolt of the Confederacy."
The thematic rooms within the museum include a Naval Room focusing on the Confederate river fleet (Brown Water Navy), an Infantry Room showcasing both Union and Confederate infantry artifacts, a Medical Department displaying medical equipment and practices of the era, a Cavalry Room detailing the roles and equipment of cavalry units, and an Artillery Room highlighting the weapons and tactics of Civil War artillery.
